2008 Phil Stat Quiz Region 11 Champ

Congratulations to UP Mindanao particularly to Ms. Anjelica Izabelle Napala, a 1st year BS Biology student, for winning the 1st place of the 17th Philippine Statistics Quiz – Region 11 held recently. She will be the regional contestant to the national competition which will be held in Manila this coming December 2008.
To Ms. Napala, congratulations and good luck to your participation at the national competition!

PhilNITS Training in Japan

Congratulations to Prof. Vanessa C. Ramoran, Chair of UP Mindanao's Computer Science program, for being chosen by PhilNITS to attend a free training in Japan from November 3-21, 2008 on "Training Program on Instructors for Software Design and Development Engineer Examination".

The training is participated by 23 participants from different countries in Asia - 1 from Malaysia, 3 from Mongolia , 8 from the Philippines, 4 from Thailand, 5 from Vietnam and 2 from Myanmar.

The 3-week training is aimed to enhance the participants' capabilities as SW instructors so that they can implement training programs related to the exam and develop practical SW courses in their countries, and to acquaint participants with presentation skills and methods of drawing up course and planning documents as well as teaching materials.  Training expenses are subsidized by the Association for Overseas Technical Scholarship (AOTS) and partly by the participants. The Program for Software Design and Development Engineer Examination in Asian Countries (SWIT) is conducted at the AOTS Tokyo Kenshu Center (TKC).

6th Mindanao Conference on IT Education (MCITE 2008)

Congratulations to the Philippine Society of IT Educators - Region XII through its president, Ms. Susan Suarez, for sponsoring this year's Mindanao Conference on IT Education.  

The Mindanao Conference on IT Education was initiated by the IT Educators in Davao City six years ago with the objectives to provide opportunities for Mindanao-based IT Educators, researchers and administrators to attend conferences and keep themselves updated on the trends and development in IT as well as to provide venue for students and faculty to present and showcase their projects and researches in Information Technology.

It was observed that conferences held in Visayas and Luzon get only few participants from Mindanao due to the high costs of attending one.  As an alternative, the IT educators in Davao City through the Council of Deans in IT Education, PSITE XI and CHED, initiated the Mindanao Conference on IT Education or MCITE.  The first conference was held in December 2002 and the response was overhelming with almost 200 participants.   

This year's conference is sponsored by PSITE - Region XII and in collaboration with PSITE XI, which is currently headed by Mr. Rogie Masangkay of Davao del Norte State College, Panabo City.      

It will be held on 4-5 December 2008 at SMC Hall, College of Engineering and Technology Bldg., Notre dame of Marbel University, Alunan Ave., Koronadal City.

Converting pdf to text file

Have you been in a situation wherein you want to convert your pdf files to text files but you do not have a software in your machine to convert them or you do not want to download online software to avoid risks of worms and trojan viruses? 

Well, an online facility will do it for you, just visit the Data conversion online, browse and locate the files that you want to convert and click the Go button.  However, it could not convert encrypted or secured pdf files but I think there are ways to do it, but I am still researching on how to do it.
