The Return of JEDI to Davao City

The JEDI that i mean here is not the fiction movie starred by Harrison Ford in 1983 but the Java Education Development Initiative project of the Sun Microsystems, Inc in partnership with various groups from the Education and IT Industry. The project , which was started in the Philippines in 2005, is implemented by the University of the Philippines Java Research and Development Center (UP JRDC) located at the University of the Philippines Diliman, Quezon City.

The aim of the project is to make high-quality, industry-endorsed IT and Computer Science course material available for free to its member institutions or colleges and universities. The course materials were developed with inputs from industry and conforms to international education standards.

The benefits that a university/college will gain from being a member of JEDI include free trainings for the computer science/IT faculty members on Java, Web Programming, Mobile Application Development, and Software Engineering; teacher's and student's manuals; teaching slides; exercises and problem sets; software and other development tools; and many others. In line with the project's objective, JEDI will return to Davao City on August 29-31, 2007 to conduct a free training on Java at the
University of Southeastern Philippines, Bo. Obrero, Davao City.   Specifically, the training will be held at the IC Laboratory at the Engineering Bldg of USEP.  This training will be the JEDI's second training, the first one was conducted at the Ateneo de Davao University around 2 or 3 years ago.
